Air Greenland Airline Profile

Air Greenland Analysis

Anna.aero have just published a good piece of analysis on the national airline of Greenland.

One stunning stat in there has been obtained from the airline's annual report.

A statement on the airlines route from Greenland, Kangerlussuaq to Baltimore / Washinton which started in May 2007.

“Over 800 passengers chose to use the route in 2007. We have learned a lot from this experience"

The article finishes at anna.aero by asking "Given the increasing potential for tourism in the country how long before some enterprising low-cost carrier launches flights to the region?

Given Greenland's fragile environment do they really want a large increase in flights and toursists ?

From The Guardian :Much has been written about the effects of global warming on the Greenland ice sheet, which covers 85% of the country. With an area of 1.8m sq km, and at its thickest almost 3.3km deep, the ice sheet is second only in size to Antarctica. According to satellite observations, the speed at which it is disappearing has more than doubled in the last 10 years. Were it to melt entirely, global sea levels would rise by seven metres (23ft).
